Both finish with the same two-year coating. What changes is the polishing under it: one stage for most cars, two for deeper swirls and scratches.

Why we polish first
A ceramic coating is clear, and it locks in whatever is under it. Swirls left in the paint stay there for the life of the coating, so the polishing comes first on every car.

A full wash and decontamination, then we check the paint and try a small test spot.

One polishing stage on a one-step. A two-step adds a cutting stage before it.

The two-year coating goes on one panel at a time over the polished paint.

Keep the car out of rain and water.
First 7 days
No washing yet. Its first wash, by hand, comes after day 7.
From then on
Wash it by hand regularly. The two-year rating counts on it.

How much does a ceramic coating cost?
At our shop in Macomb, MI, $599 for a sedan with a one-step polish and $1,000 with a two-step. An SUV or truck costs more, up to $1,300 for a 3-row or XL vehicle on the two-step. The polishing is included in those prices.
Can I get a ceramic coating without the polishing?
No. We don’t sell a coating on its own, because it would seal in the paint as it is. If you want the polishing without a coating, see our paint correction page.
Does a new car need polishing first?
Yes. A new car gets the one-step polish too. Paint can pick up light marks on its way from the factory to you, and a coating would lock those in.
How long does a ceramic coating last?
About two years, as long as it gets a regular hand wash. That number is a rating, not a warranty.
Is a ceramic coating worth it?
It’s worth it if you plan to keep the car and want it easier to wash. For a few months of protection, the 6-month ceramic sealant costs less and comes with our mobile Exterior Deluxe, from $160.
How long will you have my car?
6–8 hours with a one-step polish. 2–3 days with a two-step. A car that stays past the first day spends the night in our shop, insured.
Where do you do ceramic coatings?
Only at our shop in Macomb, MI, unlike our mobile details. You drop the car off and pick it up when it’s finished. We set both times and send the address when we confirm your day.
